In the heart of old Split, at the corner of the Peristyle and the ancient Decumanus street, stands the Grisogono Palace, the remains of a medieval residential complex of the noble family after which it is named. Visitors can see rarely preserved painted wooden ceilings here, and the palace is located in the city of Split, in Split-Dalmatia County.
Today's building is only part of a much larger 13th-century palace, which was divided among heirs over time. It began as a Romanesque building, and in the second half of the 15th century it was remodelled in the Gothic style, which is associated with the workshop of Juraj Dalmatinac and his collaborator Andrija Aleši. At the end of the first decade of the 21st century the complex was restored. The two Gothic ceilings, on the first and second floors, each cover 35 square metres and are made of 22 beams, 42 front boards and boards with decorative battens. They rest on 16 profiled stone brackets, carved in the form of animal masks and plant ornaments, which point to the work of Nikola Firentinac and his workshop.
The palace is a protected cultural good and is entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-5205.
