The old school building is located in the elevated outer part of the settlement of Poljanica Bistranska, in the municipality of Bistra in Zagreb County. It is of interest as a well-preserved example of a 19th-century school building.
It was built in 1877 and 1878 on an elongated plot on which an orchard with a well had been laid out. It has one upper floor, a rectangular ground plan with a central courtyard projection, and is covered with a gabled tile roof; it is built of stone and brick and plastered. The northern part has a cellar with a Prussian vault, and the rooms are organised around a central staircase. On the façade, differences in the final plaster treatment, brick arch elements above the windows and a wooden eave stand out. Above the walled-up main entrance the inscriptions Pučka škola and Narodna škola (both meaning People's School) have been preserved, bearing witness to its former purpose. Over time the building was entirely converted to residential use.
It is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-6513.
