Lukavec Old Town is located in Lukavec, in the middle of Turopolje, not far from Velika Gorica in Zagreb County. It is of interest to visitors as a kaštel (fortified manor) connected with the tradition of the Turopolje nobility.
On the site of an old wooden fortress from 1422, a new wooden fortress was built, in which in 1612 the first Turopolje assembly (spravišće), a gathering of the Turopolje nobility, was held. The present Lukavec came into being on the same site in the middle of the 18th century. It is a four-sided Renaissance kaštel with a rectangular courtyard and corner towers and a tall entrance tower, beneath which on the first floor is the Chapel of St Lucy. Lukavec never served as a residence: it had a defensive function, and the traditional assembly of the nobility was held in it. In terms of typology and architecture it holds a significant place among related buildings.
Lukavec Old Town is a protected cultural good and is entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-1722. It belongs to secular architectural heritage.
