The Church of St Francis Xavier is located in Vugrovec Donji, in the City of Zagreb. It is a good choice for an outing outside the city centre for those who like 18th-century sacred heritage.
It was declared a parish church in 1803, and the previous parish church of St Michael then became a burial chapel. According to the visitors' records, the church at first had a vaulted sanctuary and a nave under a wooden ceiling; in 1779 both the sanctuary and the nave have a vault, and in 1821 a sacristy and a tower were added. The church is single-nave, oriented southeast-northwest, with a semicircularly closed sanctuary, a bell tower on the axis of the main façade and a sacristy on the west. Two shallow niches, that is, chapels, beside the nave give it a cruciform ground plan. The sanctuary is covered by a cross vault, and the nave is divided into three bays with cross and barrel vaults, separated by transverse arches resting on pilasters with richly profiled capitals.
The church is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-1478.
