The islet of Mrduja lies in the channel between the capes of the islands of Brač and Šolta, near the port of Milna, in Split-Dalmatia County. It is of interest because even in antiquity it played an important role on the shipping route to Salona and Split.
On the western side of the islet stands a ruined Gothic small church with a square apse. Its ground floor is vaulted, and above the vault is a terrace-lookout with defensive elements. According to the description, it probably also served as a lighthouse, and a signalling light for navigation still exists on it today. Thus the building, besides its sacral and defensive roles, can also be read as a maritime marker on a busy shipping route.
The fortified church on Mrduja is a protected cultural property, and it is entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-1864 as sacral architectural heritage.
