The Franciscan monastery and the Church of St Martin are located in Sumartin, on the island of Brač, in the municipality of Selca in Split-Dalmatia County. The complex is of interest to visitors drawn by the history of island settlements and the role of the Franciscans in their founding.
The monastery arose on the site of a hospice for Franciscans from Imotski and Makarska, who during the Cretan War led the flight of the population from the mainland part of Dalmatia. The present elongated single-storey building was begun in the mid-18th century, under the administration and to the design of Friar Andrija Kačić Miošić. The monastery has no cloister, but a spacious upper and lower garden. The old Baroque Church of St Martin was replaced in 1913 by a new Neo-Romanesque building with a transept and bell tower, to a design by Ćiril Metod Iveković.
The complex belongs to the sacral architectural heritage. It is a protected cultural property and is entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-5000.
