The Dominican church and monastery are located on the northern side of the island of Šćedro, not far from Hvar, and administratively belong to the municipality of Jelsa in Split-Dalmatia County. It is a destination for those who are drawn to quiet, abandoned religious complexes on islands.
The complex was built in the 15th and 16th centuries. Attached to the monastery church is an older Church of St Mary, a Romanesque building from the 12th to the 13th century. It is a single-nave church with a quadrangular apse, oriented from east to west. The Dominican monastery that stood beside it now survives only as perimeter walls. The bell tower was built in the 18th century, but its upper zone has collapsed, and the longitudinal walls and the vault of the church are badly damaged.
The church and monastery are a protected cultural property. They are entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-5097 as sacral architectural heritage from the 15th to 16th century.
