Mirine-Fulfinum Complex, Omišalj

In the Sepen bay below Omišalj once stood the Roman town of Municipium Flavium Fulfinum. It had a forum, a harbour, a necropolis and baths, and its remains are today being investigated as part of a large archaeological complex.

West of the forum the early Christian complex of Mirine was uncovered, together with pre-Romanesque sacral architecture, which shows that life at the site continued for centuries after antiquity. On Cape Knez lies the early imperial necropolis of Kurilo, while the eastern part of the bay is occupied by a Venetian fortress from the 16th century. The area thus includes layers from the 1st to the 16th century.

The Mirine-Fulfinum complex with its archaeological site is a protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-5016.
