Pioneer City, also known as Youth City, is a cultural and historical ensemble in Zagreb, in a wooded area intended for children's socialising and learning. It is of interest to visitors who are drawn to post-war modern architecture and a designed landscape in the middle of the city.
The historic part of the ensemble was built between 1948 and 1953 and is regarded as a unique surviving example of public architecture from the first post-war years in Zagreb. It was conceived as a place of recreation for children alongside upbringing and education. The programme and planning were led by the urban planner Josip Seissl and the architect Ivan Vitić. In the woods are arranged pavilions for music, sculpture and painting, a theatre pavilion, a school and service pavilions; besides Vitić, they were also designed by Marijan Haberle. The garden and park part was designed by two prominent landscape architects, Zvonimir Frölich and Pavao Ungar.
The ensemble is a protected cultural property and is entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-2285. It is located in the area of the City of Zagreb.
