At Opatička Street 10 in Zagreb stands a palace known to the wider public for the Golden Hall. It is situated on the eastern edge of the Gradec plateau, along the line of the former medieval defensive wall, so it is of interest to anyone touring the historic Upper Town.
The palace was built in 1838 as a three-wing single-storey building to a design by A. Brdarić, and is regarded as a representative example of Neoclassical construction in Zagreb. In 1882 it was rebuilt to a design by H. Bollé, and a second floor was added in 1914. Originally it was a residential building, but in the second half of the 19th century it was leased to the Banus's Table, and from 1892 it housed the Department for Worship and Education. According to the programme of Isidor Kršnjavi, it was remodelled to present contemporary Croatian art and culture.
The palace is a protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-192. It is located in the City of Zagreb and belongs to the secular architectural heritage.
