The City Slaughterhouse and Livestock Market at Heinzelova Street 66-68 in Zagreb is an exceptional example of industrial architecture between the two wars. It is interesting to visitors drawn to technical heritage and bold architecture.
The decision to build a new slaughterhouse and livestock market was made in 1921. The design was prepared by the German architect Walter Frese, and the works were carried out from 1928 to 1931 by the construction company Union d.d. according to the execution design of the structure by N. Molnar. The construction was led by J. Gaupp, under the supervision of I. Zemljak and the advisory supervision of Peter Behrens. The technological equipment and internal transport were supplied by the Škoda company. The spatial solution was conceived as an integrated industrial process block. It is adapted to its setting through the accompanying buildings, and this is combined with the avant-garde architecture of the process block in a very considered and successful way.
The complex is a protected cultural property and is entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-1534.
