Šumber is a settlement in the municipality of Sveta Nedelja, in Istria County, situated above the valley of the Raša river in northeastern Istria. It is interesting because in a small space it offers a combination of fortress, manor and suburb, and today it is a valuable example of the defensive and residential architecture of this area.
The core is a medieval fortified settlement, later reshaped into a feudal court, and it owes its name to its feudal lords, the Schomberg family. The medieval part is preserved in the southeast, while the present layout arose when the complex was converted into a Renaissance castle with three semicircular towers. In the courtyard stand residential and farm buildings from the 16th and 17th centuries, and the whole area is surrounded by a wall with semicircular bastions at the corners. Around the court a suburb developed with a loggia and the Church of Sts John and Paul.
A protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-2483.
