Wreck of the Steamship Albanien, Lun

The wreck of the Austro-Hungarian steamship Albanien lies near Jakišnica bay, on the Lun peninsula on the island of Pag, in the area of the Town of Novalja, in Lika-Senj County. It attracts experienced divers because of its unusually good state of preservation and great depth.

The ship was sunk in 1916 by two torpedoes from an Italian submarine while carrying military material. It was a merchant-passenger steamship, built in 1910 in Trieste for the Austrian Lloyd. Measuring 66 meters long and 10 wide, it had two masts, and sailed at up to 12 knots with places for 44 passengers. Today it lies on a flat sandy bottom, upright on its keel, at a depth of about 72 m, in one piece.

The wreck is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-4205.
