Wreck of the Steamship Euterpe, Lun

The steamship Euterpe rests on the seabed south of Potočnica bay, on the Lun peninsula of the island of Pag, in the area of the Town of Novalja in Lika-Senj County. The wreck is a destination for experienced divers, but also a place of remembrance of a great disaster.

The Austro-Hungarian ship was built in 1886 and sailed for the Austrian Lloyd. In 1918 it was hit by two torpedoes fired from the Italian submarine F7. More than 560 people died, so the event is considered the worst maritime disaster on the eastern coast of the Adriatic. The ship was carrying Austrian troops from Rijeka to the Bay of Kotor. Today it lies on a sandy bottom, about 79 meters deep, on a shipping route. According to existing data, the front part was destroyed by explosions, and the stern is in excellent condition.

The wreck is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-4204.
