Group of Economic and Ethnographic Structures, Omišalj

The Štaje site near Omišalj, in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, bears witness to the livestock and farming culture of the island of Krk, especially of Omišalj, in the 19th century and earlier. It is of interest to visitors who want to understand how farming was once done in this area.

It covers the locations Meddrumunići, Lokvica, Na stranu, Za škuje, Bajić, Pod mindulinu and Brgućina. Some forty years ago it had more than a hundred structures: stone štaje for livestock and hay with a forecourt called a magar, mošune for small livestock, dry-stone jare for tools, and threshing floors for threshing grain. In this way it formed a complete complex with everything needed for the traditional peasant economy. Unfortunately, to this day it has not preserved that distinctiveness in full.

A protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code RRI-0189-1968.
