Archaeological Zone of the Havišće Peninsula, Jadranovo

The Havišće peninsula is near Jadranovo, in the town of Crikvenica in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County. In one small area it shows layers of life from prehistory to the Middle Ages, which makes it an interesting destination for lovers of archaeology and coastal walks.

The zone includes the prehistoric hillfort Čelo, the ancient villa rustica in the Lokvišće cove and a smaller necropolis on the Rtac peninsula. The hillfort was surrounded by a modest dry-stone rampart, and investigations yielded fragments of settlement pottery from the Bronze and Iron Ages. In the Lokvišće cove two different building phases of the villa were identified: the first from late antiquity, the second from the High and late Middle Ages. On Rtac an Iron Age necropolis was found. The area was used from prehistory through antiquity to the medieval period, and the finds are dated to the 1st to 2nd century.

The zone is a protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-2735.
