Mala Rudina, also known as Rudina - Šoljan, is a village on the plateau north of Stari Grad, in Split-Dalmatia County. It is interesting because it is exceptionally well preserved, with traditional building and gardens from the period from the 18th to the 20th century.
The settlement took shape along a path that forks outside the village towards the coves in the north and towards the pastures on the Kabal peninsula. At the southern entrance there are two ponds for water with cisterns, and beside two side streets there is a small square with an oil mill, two grape presses and a masonry pillar topped by a lantern (feral). The houses are residential and farm two-storey buildings with outside steps, sometimes covered by a vine-trellis pergola. A special way of collecting rainwater: from the eaves, beneath which are stone corbels with slabs, small channels carry water to the cisterns (gustirne). The gardens within the settlement and around it are enclosed by dry-stone walls.
A protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-7369.
Data: Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia (Ministry of Culture and Media), Open Licence; coordinates: DGU (centre of the settlement).
