Above the Lakun cove, also known as the Marić cove, in the area of the Town of Vodnjan in Istria County, rise three large stone mounds. The Komunal site attracts visitors who like unusual landscapes and prehistoric traces in Istrian nature.
The mounds are heaped up of limestone, about six metres high and 25 metres in diameter. During investigation of the northern mound the outer stone covering was removed, revealing a circular terraced dry-stone construction. Five terraces are preserved, each from 0.7 to 1.2 metres high, and the diameter of the lowest is 20 metres. From the east a staircase of 13 steps made of larger stone blocks leads to the top. According to the small finds, the terraced mound arose between the first and fourth centuries, probably on an older prehistoric tumulus. The remaining two mounds have not been investigated, but by their size and construction they probably hide a similar form.
The site is a protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-7112.
