Archaeological Site and Chapel of Mohorov, Omišalj

Above the Blatna cove, in the municipality of Omišalj in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, lies the archaeological site of Mohorov. It shows what an agricultural estate looked like in late antiquity, in the 5th century, and is therefore interesting to lovers of antiquities.

Here archaeologists uncovered a spacious architectural complex facing north, and it is in this direction that they propose continuing the investigations. Among the finds is gold coinage from the late antique period. The site bears its name from a little church of St Heragora, but its remains have not been identified so far, so its exact location is still unknown.

A protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-1688. The site has so far been studied only in part, which is why future excavations could bring new insights into life on this part of the island.
