At the eastern entrance to Jelsa, on the island of Hvar, stands the church of St Roch. This modest stone-built church is a good rest during a walk through the village, with the occasional interesting detail.
The older Gothic building was renovated between 1601 and 1604, thanks to donations from prominent Jelsa families of that time. The ground plan is rectangular, and the apse square and pronounced. The walls are of roughly dressed stone laid in courses, and the roof is of stone slabs. On the main façade is a simple entrance with stone thresholds, beside which are two square windows. On the axis of the gable is a masonry single bell gable, and on the gable of the apse St Roch is carved in shallow relief. Inside is an altar painting from the 18th century.
The church is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-4871. It is located in the municipality of Jelsa, in Split-Dalmatia County.
