The church of St Nicholas in Stari Grad was once the centre of the confraternity of seafarers, which is understandable in a town with a long maritime tradition. It was built at the southern end of the town around 1500, and through the 16th to 18th centuries it received new parts. It belongs to Split-Dalmatia County.
Originally it was a single-nave building with a square apse, in the transition from Gothic to Renaissance. This older part now forms the middle of the church and is covered by a barrel vault with transverse ribs. To the west a nave with a pointed vault was added. On the west and north sides open two Renaissance portals with lunettes, in the gable is a rosette decorated with dentils, and at the top a bell gable. Attached to the south wall is a house in which in 1579 a person confined in a hermitage lived. The sacristy was added between 1793 and 1798.
The church is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-6359.
