The fortress is located on Cape Oštro, at the very end of the Prevlaka peninsula, in the municipality of Konavle in Dubrovnik-Neretva County. A road that follows the whole peninsula leads to it, so it is easily accessible to those who like touring historic fortresses by the sea.
The fortress follows the slope of the terrain and is organised in five levels with an oval plan. On the lower levels are rooms for the garrison, shelters and stores of semicircular shape, with thick walls and vaults and paving of stone slabs and brick. In the upper parts the ceilings are reinforced with iron girders. On the second and third levels are two spacious terraces with a water cistern and finely shaped stone crowns. The floor is of reddish stone slabs from the Kamenari quarry. The highest, multi-storey part ends in profiled brackets that probably carried a crenellation. The whole fortress is built of finely dressed stone.
The fortress is a protected cultural property from the 19th century, and it is entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-7183.
