Remains of an Early Modern Shipwreck near the Islet of Otočac

Between the settlements of Brna and Prižba, north of the western edge of the islet of Otočac, near Blato (Dubrovnik-Neretva County), lie the remains of an early modern shipwreck. They are interesting to divers because the cargo of the sunken ship has remained on the bottom since the second half of the 18th century.

The first movable finds are seen already at 11 meters of depth, and most of the cargo, ship's structure and armament is at a depth of 20 to 27 m, about 1.5 miles east of Prižba. Among the finds are remains of glass window panes, coils of wire, crates with iron bars, barrels, fragments of a yellow raw material (possibly arsenic sulfide) and one larger iron cannon on the southern edge. By analogy, the cargo was probably being transported from Venice toward the Levant.

A protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-5656.
