Church of St. Eliseus, Fažana

The church of St. Eliseus is located in Fažana, in Istria County. It is small, but attractive because it shows what an early Christian church looked like and what builders did with parts of older buildings.

It was built in the 6th century as a single-nave building. The apse is polygonal on the outside and semicircular inside. On the facade are two small square windows, whose lintels are reused pieces from the pre-Romanesque and late antique periods. The window on the facade and the one at the head of the apse are closed by a stone grille with perforated openings. Below the roof of the apse a stone cornice carved like a toothed saw has been preserved. Under the porch stand two parts of a late antique sarcophagus, and in front of the church a small early Christian cemetery has been explored.

The church is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-866.
