Church of St. Mary of Mount Carmel, Fažana

In Fažana (Fasana), in Istria County, stands the small church of St. Mary of Mount Carmel from the 14th and 15th centuries. For visitors it is interesting because of the remains of medieval frescoes in the interior.

It is a single-nave building with a flat rear wall, built at the end of the 14th century. Inside, traces of painting from the 15th century are preserved: on the rear wall a scene of the Coronation of the Virgin can be made out, and on the southern and northern parts of the vault figures from scenes that have not yet been interpreted can be discerned. In front of the chapel a spacious loggia was added.

A protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-867. The small size of the building does not diminish its value as an example of Istrian sacred architecture and painting of the late Middle Ages.
