At the Janice site, near Pakoštane in Zadar County, remains of Roman construction with a small harbor lie under the sea. For those who tour underwater sites, it is an interesting place where you can see what a coastal Roman villa looked like.
Underwater one can make out a breakwater of huge stone blocks leading toward the islet of St. Justin, and to the west of it was a small harbor for transshipment. The shallow bottom, only a little more than one to two meters deep, makes sightseeing easier. These walls and the harbor probably belonged to a villa from antiquity, the remains of which can still be found today on land right by the shore. The site is associated with the period from the 1st to the 4th century.
The site is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-35.
Data: Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia (Ministry of Culture and Media), Open Licence; coordinates: DGU (centre of the settlement).
