In Nin, in Zadar County, lie the remains of an impressive Roman house with mosaics. It is interesting to a visitor because it shows how a wealthy family of the former Roman town lived, not far from the forum.
The house was built at the end of the 1st and the beginning of the 2nd century in a residential block, and streets surrounded it from the north and southwest. It has a peristyle with a well, unusual in size and construction, and several rooms covered with floor mosaics. The mosaics are very rich: geometric, plant and animal motifs are densely arranged. Especially interesting is the mosaic Latin inscription in three lines by the south entrance. By their motifs and technique the mosaics belong to the beginning of the 2nd century. The investigations also yielded a larger quantity of movable finds.
The remains are a protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-3433.
