Archaeological Ensemble of Gradina, Murter

At the Gradina site on the island of Murter, in the municipality of Murter-Kornati in Šibenik-Knin County, traces of prehistoric and Roman life have been found. The ancient settlement of Colentum stood here, so the place attracts visitors interested in Roman country villas on the coast.

The remains of architecture and graves belong to this settlement. Among the small finds are coins of the emperors Nero and Vespasian and Roman bricks with stamps. Sixteen structures have been explored, that is, remains of ancient country buildings, some of which have cisterns. Parts of some of the villas lie under the sea. The villas were richly decorated with mosaics and wall paintings, and date from the first and second centuries AD.

The ensemble is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code RST-0512.
