Cultural and Historical Ensemble of Murter

Murter is a settlement in the municipality of Murter-Kornati, in Šibenik-Knin County. Here a visitor can stroll along the winding main street and the narrow cross streets, where the houses are in places connected by arches called volte.

The settlement is organized along a central street that winds in a north-south direction. Narrow streets continue from it at right angles, and the buildings on each side have their main entrance facing the street. Across the street the houses are in places joined by arches. The relative regularity of the urban layout is visible in the shape and arrangement of the plots, which extend perpendicular to the main street. According to the cadastral map of the First Austrian Cadastral Survey, the buildings were densely tied to the main street, and where they gather around the narrow perpendicular streets, behind them are agricultural areas that served as gardens.

The ensemble is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-3541.
