Srednje Selo lies in the interior of the island of Šolta, on the gentle slope of the northwestern edge of Sridnje polje, in Split-Dalmatia County. An old path links it to Grohote in the east and to Donje Selo in the west. It is interesting to a visitor as an example of a typical inland village of Šolta.
It is mentioned in 1446 as Villa de medio, and according to Farlati the stables of the inhabitants of Grohote were there. The village consists of complexes of vernacular houses, so-called dvori, which form an irregular network of narrow streets adapted to the plots and the terrain. In the western part is the village square, and on the southern edge the parish Church of Our Lady of Candlemas, built at the end of the 19th century on the site of an older 17th-century church. A dvor consists of an enclosed inner courtyard with a well, around which stand ground-floor farm buildings and a house with a stable on the ground floor and living quarters upstairs, reached by an outside staircase, the balatura. The houses are built of dressed stone in lime mortar, and the windows are closed with shutters.
The ensemble is a protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-5993.
