Above Turanj, in the municipality of Sveti Filip i Jakov in Zadar County, lie the remains of a prehistoric hillfort settlement called Gradina. Visitors can imagine here what a fortified settlement on the top of a rise looked like in ancient times.
The hillfort was surrounded by a horseshoe-shaped rampart that protected three sides of the settlement, while the south remained without a wall because it was protected by the steep slope. The rampart was made of dry stone, with five walls leaning one against the other, in places up to 8 m wide, and the ruins today are in some places up to 3 m high. The interior measures about 130 x 110 m. The hillfort probably arose in the late Bronze Age and lasted through the Iron Age, until the arrival of the Romans. The period of use is estimated from 1500 BC to the year 1.
The site is a protected cultural property and is entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-4092.
