Sveti Filip i Jakov is a place three kilometres west of Biograd na Moru, in Zadar County. It arose as a fortified refuge, and even today its regular defensive layout can be seen, with houses forming a rampart.
The settlement developed around the medieval little Church of Sts Philip and James, which, together with the village, suffered in the war between Venice and Hungary. The place is closely linked with the Benedictine Rogovo Abbey, which had a harbour, estates and an oil mill with a castle here. When the Turks came and the people of Rogovo moved from the hinterland, a fortified refuge of rectangular plan arose. The outer facades of the houses form a defensive wall with a castle at the northern corner. The main street, the kuntrata, divides the settlement into two equal parts, and in the middle is the parish church. The houses within the core are mostly rural, stone two- and three-storey buildings, with a few town houses on the shore. The period of origin extends from the 15th to the 20th century.
The ensemble is a protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-2964.
