Diklo is a settlement five kilometres from the centre of Zadar, in Zadar County, and with its preserved old centre it attracts anyone who wants to see what a coastal village looked like before modern development. It is first mentioned in the year 918.
The present ensemble arose in the late Middle Ages and during the 17th and 18th centuries. The core has an irregular, roughly square shape, and the houses are so closely joined that their outer facades together form a kind of defensive wall. The main street runs through the village, and two others go around it. On the edge stands the parish church of Our Lady of the Rosary with Crkveni trg (Church Square), and in the middle the Strmić castle. The houses are of stone, plastered or widely pointed, mostly two-storey with porches, and some have outside staircases called boloture. The gabled roofs are covered with channel tiles. The ensemble dates from the period between the 10th and 20th centuries.
A protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-3167.
