On one of the small islets off Zadar, within the town of Zadar in Zadar County, the remains of a small medieval church dedicated to St Clement are preserved. For lovers of history and maritime landscapes it is of interest as a quiet witness to a time when sacred buildings were raised even on the smallest pieces of land in the Zadar waters.
The little church is first reliably mentioned in a will of 1288, and its construction is placed between the 11th and 13th centuries. A lazaretto, that is, a quarantine station for travellers and goods, once operated on the same islet. The building was modest in size, and its walls have survived to a height of roughly one metre. Outside it is smooth, without decorative articulation, while the rectangular interior is divided into two bays by pilasters. A semicircular apse rises on the east side, on account of which the church is counted among the Romanesque monuments.
The remains are a protected cultural property and are entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-752.
