Fountain on Fra Andrija Kačić Miošić Square, Makarska

On the central square of Makarska, Fra Andrija Kačić Miošić Square, in Split-Dalmatia County, stands a late Baroque fountain. Visitors can see it in passing while strolling through the town, and it is interesting as a remnant of the time when public water was the centre of social life.

The fountain was built in 1775 and has a rectangular form. The basin is on the south side, and above it are three mascarons in shallow relief with copper spouts. On the stone beam above the opening is an inscription, and on either side a coat of arms, one of which is the oldest coat of arms of the town of Makarska. Construction was led by the master builder Iseppo Bisazzo. In 1990 the fountain was thoroughly restored, and all the stone sculpture was cleaned in the process.

The fountain is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-4881.
