In the south-eastern part of the town of Krk, on the island of the same name, stands a cathedral complex consisting of the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Church of St Quirinus. The group of buildings is of interest to visitors because in a small space it presents layers from the early Christian period to the Baroque.
In the second half of the 12th century, the two-storey Church of St Quirinus was added in front of the cathedral façade, which, according to experts' description, is typologically unique on Croatian soil. The cathedral itself has three naves and is very layered in time and style: it continues the early Christian tradition, and medieval architectural styles intertwine in it with Renaissance and Baroque interventions. It is partly built of spolia, that is, reused older material. Particularly notable are the rich sculpture of the capitals of the Romanesque columns, the sculptural decoration of the steps, the Renaissance pulpit and the Gothic partitions, among which is the Frankopan Chapel.
The complex is a protected cultural property and is entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-133.
