St Peter's Lighthouse stands on the St Peter peninsula in Makarska, in Split-Dalmatia County. It is a modest maritime building in a prominent position, of interest to those who like the history of Adriatic navigation and walks by the sea.
Even in antiquity the peninsula played an important role in controlling navigation in the central Adriatic. The present lighthouse was built in 1873. It is a single-storey stone building with a square plan covered by a hipped roof, and in its middle a low tower with a lantern has been built. This form is a common example of simple Adriatic lighthouses, so the building nicely shows how maritime lights for the safety of ships were built in the 19th century.
St Peter's Lighthouse is a protected cultural property and is entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-5082. It belongs to the secular architectural heritage and is located in the town of Makarska.
