In the center of Novi Vinodolski, in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, stands the Frankopan castle with the Kvadrac tower. It is important to visitors because it is tied to the Vinodol Law, one of the oldest legal texts in the Croatian language.
It was built in the mid-13th century as a fortress of the Frankopan family. The original floor plan was quadrangular, with the square Kvadrac tower, a round tower and a residential building, and the whole complex was surrounded by an outer wall with smaller bastions. The original appearance is partly preserved. The castle has exceptional historical significance because in its great palace in 1288 the Vinodol Law was written, which was adopted in the same year in the square in front of the castle.
The castle is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-840.
