The plague column stands in the centre of Holy Trinity Square in Osijek's Tvrđa, in Osijek-Baranja County. Visitors to Tvrđa can view here a Baroque monument that remains a landmark of the square today.
It was erected in 1729 and 1730 by the widow of General Petraš as a lasting sign of remembrance and a vow because of the plague that raged through Slavonia and Osijek. It was made of sandstone in the form of an obelisk on a circular, articulated base, which rests on a rectangular platform with a four-sided access staircase. At the top of the obelisk the Holy Trinity is represented symbolically. At the corners of the staircase, at ground level, stand figures of saints, and four more saints are at the base of the obelisk. Towards the north, a statue of St Rosalia is shown in a reclining pose.
The plague column is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-1665. It belongs to secular architectural heritage.
