Hotel Royal at 34 Kapucinska Street in Osijek is a representative building from the beginning of the 20th century. It is a good example of how the city once looked at the centre of social life, and today it is an important part of Osijek's heritage.
The building, with two upper floors, was designed by Ivan Eduard Domes in 1904 and 1905 for hotel use. The façade of late historicism is shaped in a neo-Baroque idiom. The ground floor housed a late historicist café with a summer garden and a Secession cinema hall. The value of the building lies in its proportions, the rhythm of masses and surfaces and the functional design of spaces with rich decoration, which create an almost theatrical atmosphere. Such pronounced representativeness shows the high level of social life in Osijek at the beginning of the 20th century.
The hotel is a protected cultural good and is entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-3448.
