Večka Kula Beach – Starigrad Paklenica

Večka Kula Beach is set apart from the settlement itself. It is made up of coarse pebbles and stone fortifications that complete the atmosphere. Clean and calm sea are the hallmarks of this beach, which, despite its isolation, is very well attended during the season. If you would like to come here to swim and stay for the day, be sure to bring everything you might need. For a good rest on this beach, if you can, bring a parasol and a sun lounger. Protect yourself well against the sun, and bring water with you. The enjoyment will be just like summer itself. The Legend of the Dog-Headed King

Once upon a time there was a king who had a dog's head but a human body. He was shaved each time by a different young man, whom the king would then have killed so that his secret would not be discovered. One mother thought of a way to save her only son from death when his turn came to go and shave the king. She kneaded bread with her own medicine and gave it to her son to offer the king. The king ate the bread, and then the young man told him what made it so sweet. Since they had now become milk-brothers through the young man's mother, the king decided to let the young man go, but ordered him never to reveal to anyone the secret of his dog's head. The young man kept the secret for a long time, but one day he still had to speak out. So he decided to entrust the secret to the black earth. He dug a hole, bent down and whispered: "Black earth, our king has a dog's head". As chance would have it, an elder (bazga) tree grew from the ground on that spot, from which a shepherd made a little flute. When he played the flute, instead of a tune, the words rang out: "Our king has a dog's head!". The secret spread throughout the whole kingdom, so the king was left to live unshaven and in solitude until his death, while the young men of the kingdom were freed from the fear of death in his tower.
